How the conversion works

The US liquid pint is one eighth of the US gallon, which makes it exactly 0.473176473 liters. The conversion is a single multiplication or division:

  • pints → liters: multiply by 0.473176 — 4 pt × 0.473176 = 1.893 L
  • liters → pints: divide by 0.473176 — 2 L ÷ 0.473176 = 4.227 pt

The one thing to get right first: which pint?

Pint typeLitersMilliliters
US pint (this tool)0.473 L473 ml
UK imperial pint0.568 L568 ml

The imperial pint is about 20% larger — the reason a pint of beer or milk in Britain and Ireland is bigger than its American namesake. This converter uses the US pint; for UK pints, multiply by 0.568261 instead.

How to use it

  1. Type a value into either field — pints or liters.
  2. The other side converts live; results are trimmed to three decimals.
  3. Tap a common value chip (0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 pints) to start from a typical quantity.
  4. Copy puts the full conversion (e.g. 4 pt = 1.893 L) on your clipboard.

When you need this

Beer and cider servings, milk cartons, ice cream tubs, homebrew batch sizes, American recipes that call for "a pint of stock" — pints show up wherever liquids are sold, and the rest of the world answers in liters. Handy anchors: a US pint is just under half a liter, 2 pints make a quart (0.95 L), and 8 pints make a gallon.

For bigger volumes, the Liters to Gallons Converter picks up where pints leave off. In the kitchen, the Cups to ML Converter covers recipe measures (2 cups = 1 US pint), and the ML to OZ Converter handles fluid ounces (16 fl oz = 1 US pint).

Private by design

The conversion runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded or tracked, and there's no sign-up. For volume, weight, temperature and more in one place, try the general Unit Converter, or browse more free utilities on the all tools page.
