What is this invoice generator?
This is a free, client-side invoice builder. You fill in a short form — who you are, who you're billing, the line items, a tax rate — and a clean, professional invoice assembles itself in the live preview below the form. When it looks right, one click on Print / Save as PDF opens your browser's print dialog with only the invoice visible, ready to print on paper or save as a PDF.
There's no account, no template marketplace and no watermark. It's the fastest path from "I need to bill someone" to a finished PDF, and because everything runs in your browser, your client data and amounts never leave your device.
What a valid invoice needs
An invoice is a legal document, and while the details differ by country, most tax authorities expect the same core elements — all of which this generator covers:
- A unique invoice number. Numbers should be sequential and never reused (INV-001, INV-002, …). Keep your own list so the sequence stays consistent across invoices.
- Dates. The issue date (when the invoice was created) and usually a due date or payment terms ("net 14", "due on receipt"). The tool defaults the due date to 14 days after issue — change it to whatever you've agreed.
- The parties. Your name or business name and address, and the client's. Depending on where you are, tax identifiers (VAT ID, EIN, ABN) may be required — add them to the address blocks.
- Line items. What you delivered, in what quantity, at what unit price. Vague one-liners cause payment delays; specific descriptions get paid faster.
- Tax. The tax rate applied and the tax amount, shown separately from the subtotal. If you're exempt or using a special scheme (e.g. reverse charge), note that in the notes field.
Requirements vary by country. Some jurisdictions demand specific wording, sequential numbering rules, or your tax registration number on every invoice. Treat this tool as the fast way to produce the document, and check your local rules — or your accountant — for what must appear on it.
How to use it
- Pick your currency — dollar, euro, pound or Swiss franc.
- Fill in From (you) and Bill to (your client). Multiple lines are fine; they're kept as-is in the preview.
- Set the invoice number and check the issue and due dates.
- Add line items — description, quantity, unit price. Use Add item for more rows and the bin icon to remove one.
- Enter your tax rate in percent (0 if you don't charge tax) and any notes — bank details and payment reference belong here.
- Review the live preview, then hit Print / Save as PDF and choose "Save as PDF" as the destination.
The subtotal, tax and total are calculated live as you type, both in the summary tiles and in the invoice itself.
Working out the tax first
If you need to figure out the right tax before you invoice, the VAT Calculator adds or removes VAT at any rate, and the Sales Tax Calculator does the same for US-style sales tax. Billing by the hour? Total your hours with the Timesheet Calculator first, then bring the result over as a line item ("Consulting — 12.5 h × $80").
Why the preview prints so cleanly
The preview is built with plain, print-safe styling — dark text on a white background with light rules — so what you see on screen is what lands on paper, in light or dark site mode. When you print, a small print rule hides everything on the page except the invoice itself, so you never get navigation bars or buttons in your PDF. No extension, no export server: just your browser's own, reliable print-to-PDF.
Private by design
Nothing you enter is uploaded, logged or stored. The entire invoice lives in your browser tab and disappears when you close it — so save your PDF before you leave the page. That makes the tool safe for client names, rates and amounts you wouldn't paste into a random web form. Explore more free utilities on the all tools page.
