How the conversion works

Unlike most unit pairs, temperature needs an offset as well as a factor. The two scales are linked by the exact formula:

  • °C → °F: multiply by 1.8, then add 32 — 20 °C × 1.8 + 32 = 68 °F
  • °F → °C: subtract 32, then divide by 1.8 — (98.6 °F − 32) ÷ 1.8 = 37 °C

Both scales meet at −40°, where −40 °C equals −40 °F — a handy sanity check.

How to use it

  1. Type a temperature into either field — Celsius or Fahrenheit.
  2. The other side converts live; results are trimmed to two decimals.
  3. Tap a common value chip (0, 10, 20, 25, 37, 100 °C) to start from a typical temperature.
  4. Copy puts the full conversion (e.g. 37 °C = 98.6 °F) on your clipboard.

When you need this

Weather forecasts when travelling, oven settings in international recipes, checking a fever reading from a US thermometer, lab work, thermostat settings — anywhere the two scales collide. For weight the KG to LBS Converter and for length the CM to Inches Converter work exactly the same way, and the general Unit Converter covers temperature alongside length, weight, volume and more in one place.
