How the conversion works

The US fluid ounce is defined as exactly 29.5735295625 milliliters, so the conversion is a single division or multiplication:

  • ml → fl oz: divide by 29.5735 — 500 ml ÷ 29.5735 = 16.907 fl oz
  • fl oz → ml: multiply by 29.5735 — 8 fl oz × 29.5735 = 236.588 ml

The factor comes straight from the definition of the US gallon (exactly 3.785411784 liters, split into 128 fluid ounces), so results are as exact as the number of decimals you keep.

Watch out for the UK imperial fluid ounce: it's 28.4131 ml, about 4% smaller than the US one. American recipe sites, drink menus and cosmetics labels all mean the US fluid ounce — and so does this converter.

  2. The other side converts live; results are trimmed to three decimals.
  3. Tap a common value chip (5, 15, 30, 50, 100, 250, 500 ml) to start from a typical measurement.
  4. Copy puts the full conversion (e.g. 500 ml = 16.907 fl oz) on your clipboard.

When you need this

Drink sizes on international menus, medicine doses, perfume and skincare bottles, cocktail recipes — anywhere milliliters meet American fluid ounces. A classic case: airport security. The 100 ml carry-on limit for liquids equals about 3.4 fl oz, which is exactly why US travel-size bottles are labeled 3.4 oz.

For cooking, the Cups to ML Converter handles US recipe volumes the same way, the Pints to Liters Converter covers beer and milk quantities, and the Liters to Gallons Converter takes care of the big containers.
