Type in either field — the other converts live. 1 yard = 0.9144 m exactly.

How the conversion works

The yard is defined as exactly 0.9144 meters, so the conversion is a single multiplication or division:

  • yards → meters: multiply by 0.9144 — 100 yd × 0.9144 = 91.44 m
  • meters → yards: divide by 0.9144 — 100 m ÷ 0.9144 = 109.3613 yd

The factor has been an international definition since 1959, so results are as exact as the number of decimals you keep. A useful mental model: a meter is roughly a "long yard" — about 9.4% longer — so meter distances always come out a bit bigger than the same number of yards.

How to use it

  1. Type a value into either field — yards or meters.
  2. The other side converts live; results are trimmed to four decimals.
  3. Tap a common value chip (1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 220 yd) to start from a typical distance.
  4. Copy puts the full conversion (e.g. 100 yd = 91.44 m) on your clipboard.

When you need this

Sports are the biggest source of yard-versus-meter confusion: an American football field is 100 yards (91.44 m) between the goal lines, golf courses quote hole distances in yards in the US and meters almost everywhere else, and swimmers constantly compare 25-yard pool times against 25-meter ones. The 100-yard dash versus the 100-meter sprint is the classic trap — the metric race is over 8 meters longer. Fabric is the other everyday case: US shops sell by the yard, most patterns and international sellers work in meters. For related distances, the Feet to Meters Converter and Miles to KM Converter work exactly the same way.
