Date of birth
What is an age calculator?
An age calculator turns a date of birth into your exact age — not just the year count, but the precise number of years, months and days you have been alive. It also tells you how many total days that adds up to and how long until your next birthday.
Working this out by hand is surprisingly fiddly: months have different lengths, leap years add a day here and there, and “how many days until my birthday” depends on whether it has already passed this year. This tool handles all of that instantly and correctly.
How to use it
- Click the date of birth field and pick (or type) your birth date.
- Your age appears straight away as years, months and days.
- Below it you’ll see total days lived and days to your next birthday.
That’s it — there’s nothing to submit, and the result is ready the moment you choose a date.
What you can use it for
- Birthdays and milestones — see exactly how old you (or someone else) are today, down to the day.
- Eligibility checks — quickly confirm whether an age threshold is met for forms, sign-ups or rules.
- Anniversaries and countdowns — find out how many days are left until the next big date.
- Fun facts — the “total days lived” number is a great conversation starter and a neat way to mark round-number days (your 10,000th day, for example).
How the math works
The calculator compares your birth date with today’s date. It first works out the whole years, then the leftover months, then the leftover days, borrowing from the previous month when needed so the result is always valid (you’ll never see something like “2 months, −3 days”). The total days figure is a straight count between the two dates, which is why leap days are included automatically.
For the next birthday, it checks whether this year’s birthday has already happened; if it has, it counts forward to next year’s.
Tips
- Use it as of any morning. Because it measures to today, the numbers tick over correctly each day — refresh on your birthday to watch the years update.
- Time zones don’t distort it. The tool works from calendar dates, so it isn’t thrown off by hours or daylight-saving changes.
- Double-check far-past dates. Very old historical dates still calculate correctly, but make sure the year you typed is the one you meant — a slipped digit changes the result by a lot.
Because everything runs locally in your browser, the age calculator is a quick, private way to get an exact age or a birthday countdown without handing your personal dates to any server. If you like fast, no-friction calculators like this, our Percentage Calculator handles everyday maths the same way — instantly and entirely on your own device.
